Development Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
Anyone who wants to erect, construct, alter, replace, relocate or add to any structure (including advertising signs), and anyone who wants to make any change or alteration in the use made of land or structures, within the Town of Lunenburg.

Application Forms & Process:
You can get an application form at the Town Office. Complete the form, and submit it, along with the appropriate fee and all required information.
 
Waiting Period:
Approximately 2 weeks, once all information has been received, and all requirements are met.
 
Expiry & Renewal:
This permit is valid for 1 year from its date of issue. It can be renewed.
 
Price & Payment:

Application fee: $ 25for values under $2,000

$ 50 for values over $2,000
 

Related Requirements:
The following approvals or permits may be required before this permit can be issued:
  1. Referrals to Engineering for approvals of: sewer connections and driveway locations;
     
  2. Subdivision approval is sometimes needed;
     

  3. If you are not connecting to a sewer system, you may need approval for the installation of an Sewage Disposal system [or septic tank] from the Nova Scotia Environment and Labour; and

  4. Certificate of Appropriateness under the Heritage Conservation District Bylaws.
     
Additional Information:
Building Permits cannot be issued in zoned areas within the Town until a development permit has been first issued.
