Building Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
  Anyone who wants to build, alter or install any structure, or part thereof, including a swimming pool. Permits are not required in some circumstances - see Additional Information.

Application Forms & Process:
 

You can get an application form by contacting the office above.

New construction - Residential, Commercial, Industrial or Institutional: Along with the completed application form, please submit complete building plans.

Renovations, repairs, barns, storage sheds and garages: Along with the completed application form, please submit Detailed Specifications or building plans.

The completed application can be submitted to the office above in person, by mail or by fax.

If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the Permit will be mailed to the applicant.
 

Waiting Period:
  First Application: 3 to 10 business days

Renewal: 3 to 10 business days

(Please allow several extra days for mail delivery.)
 

Price & Payment: (No tax is charged)
 

New Construction and Additions:
$5.00 plus $0.06 per square foot to include all finished livable areas, but excluding unfinished basement areas for residential building, community centers and churches
$5.00 plus $0.10 per square foot for commercial and industrial buildings
$5.00 plus $0.02 per square foot for sheds, shell warehouses, garages, and barns
$5.00 plus 0.1% of value for other non-residential uses

Repairs and Alterations:
$5.00 plus 0.1% of value for repairs, alterations, and swimming pools.

Renewals:
$5.00

Payment In Person: Cash, Cheque or Money Order, Visa or MasterCard
Payment By Mail: Cheque or Money Order
Payment By Telephone:
Visa or MasterCard
 

Expiry & Renewal:
  This permit is valid for 1 year from the date it is issued. It can be renewed. Renewal is not automatic; it is the responsibility of the permit holder to contact the Municipality before it expires.

Some or all of the following permits or approvals may be required before the Building Permit can be issued:

Additional Information:
 

Building permits are NOT required for:

  • accessory buildings not greater than 20 square metres (215.2 sq. ft.) in area;
  • fences less than 2 metres (6.56 feet) in height;
  • installation of siding over an existing exterior finish;
  • installation of storm windows;
  • ground level patios and walkways;
  • replacing an existing roofing surface; and
  • interior and exterior non-structural repairs
