Fence Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
 

Anyone who wants to erect a fence, or (in some areas) erect a fence over a certain height, within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

Application Forms & Process:
 

You can apply for this permit at the office listed above. You do not have to apply in person; someone may apply on your behalf, provided that they have a signed document from the owner giving them authority to do that.

When you apply, you must provide the correct civic address of the property on which the fence is to be erected, so that the permit can be tagged to the correct property.

You pay the fee when you apply (see Price & Payment, below).

After the appropriate fees have been submitted, and the application has been reviewed by the Building Official, the applicant will be notified by mail.

Waiting Period:
  Normally, this permit is approved within 1 business day.
Expiry & Renewal:
  This permit is valid for 1 year from the date it is issued. It can be renewed. Renewal is not automatic; it is the responsibility of the permit holder to contact the office before it expires.
