Demolition Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
Anyone who wants to demolish an existing building, or any portion of it, in the Town of Bridgewater.

Application Forms & Process:
The application is filled out at the office listed above, and submitted along with the appropriate fee and appropriate information (such as the type of building and the method of demolition which will be arranged). 

Applicants will be notified by phone or by mail when a decision has been made.

Waiting Period:
Approximately 10 days from the date of application.
Expiry & Renewal:
This permit is valid for 1 year from the date it is issued. It can be renewed. Note: the application expires in 6 months if the application is not completed.
Price & Payment:
0.21% of the estimated value of the proposed demolition or $10.00 whichever is the greater.

Payment is by cash, cheque or money order made out to the Town of Bridgewater.

Related Requirements:
Other applicable approvals may be required, for example you may be required to notify the Traffic Authority.

  2. All demolition shall be carried out in a manner to provide reasonable safety to persons and property. Safety measures at the demolition site must be in accordance with the National Building Code of Canada.
     
  3. If the demolition is to occur at or near the street or highway right-of-way, the local Traffic Authority and/or NS Department of Transportation may need to be notified.
