Occupancy Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
Anyone who wants to occupy a building or part of a building that has required the issuance of a Building Permit.

The major classes of occupancy are: (1) Group "A" Assembly, (2) Group "B" Institutional, (3) Group "C" Residential, (4) Group "D" Personal Service, (5) Group "E" Mercantile, (6) Group "F" Industrial Division 1.2 or 3.

Application Forms & Process:
The Building Inspector shall be notified when required construction, alterations, etc. have been completed, in order to facilitate a final inspection and the issuance of an Occupancy Permit. 

Failure to comply with all requirements could slow the Occupancy Permit approval process. 

Applicants will be notified by phone or by mail when a decision has been made.

Waiting Period:
usually within 10 days
Expiry & Renewal:
This permit remains valid until there is a change in the class of occupancy or until additions or renovations take place which require a building permit..
Price:
Not applicable; it is included in the Building Permit application.

  2. Any change from a given class of occupancy to another class of occupancy requires issuing a Building Permit and an Occupancy Permit.
