Development Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
In the Town of Bridgewater, a development permit is required by any one intending to erect, construct, add to, alter, replace or relocate any building or part of building or structure; change or alter the use made of land, buildings or structures, or erect a new sign.

Application Forms & Process:
Application forms are available from the Development Officer.

Applicants may need to submit a sketch showing the shape and dimension of the lot; the location, height and dimensions of building or structure, distance from each building to the front, side and rear lot lines; location of existing buildings; location and dimensions of parking areas, driveways and landscaping features, as well as sign type, size and location.

If approved, Development Permits are mailed to the applicant unless the applicant requests otherwise.

Waiting Period:
The development permit must be issued within 30 days of receipt of a complete application.   Usually the development permit is issued within a week of receiving a complete application.
Expiry & Renewal:
A Development Permit is valid for 1 year from the day it is issued.  It can be renewed.  A request for renewal should be made by the holder before the permit expires.

Related Requirements:
Development must conform to the requirements of the Bridgewater Land Use Bylaw or a development agreement in place on the lot.
