Building Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
  A Building Permit is required for the erection, installation, extension, relocating, material alteration or material repair of a building and includes the installation of a factory-made building fabricated or moved from elsewhere in the Municipality of Barrington.

Application Forms & Process:
  Application should be made on the application form available from the office. The applicant will be notified by mail and may be required to provide Additional Information: in order to determine if the application complies with the requirements of the Building Code Act.
Waiting Period:
  There is no set time frame for notification; however, up to two weeks is considered reasonable time from receipt of a completed application.
Price & Payment:
 

Fees range from 2 cents per square foot up to 10 cents per square foot depending on the use, plus a $5.00 flat charge. Renovations and alterations are based on $1.00 per $1,000.00 of construction costs.

Payment can be made by cash, cheque or money order, made out to the Municipality of the District of Barrington.

Expiry & Renewal:
  The Permit is good for only the time period specified on it. Once it expires, it must be renewed if construction is to continue.

  Some or all of the following permits or approvals may be required before the Building Permit can be issued:
Additional Information:
  The building permit expires after twelve months and must be renewed if construction is to continue. Lot approval permit is good for twelve months and must be renewed if further work is required.
