|
Any group wishing to incorporate a co-operative in Nova
Scotia must be approved by the Nova Scotia Inspector of Co-operatives.

Articles and by-laws must be completed (model forms
are provided by the Co-operatives Branch) and forwarded
to the Inspector of Co-operatives for approval. When completed, a certificate
and approved documents are returned to the registered office of the co-operative
by the Co-operatives Branch.

This registration is valid for one year. Co-operatives
are required to submit an Annual Renewal form, annual financial statements
and a renewal fee of $28.84 (made payable to the Inspector of Co-operatives)

+ hst = $52.39 for an Atlantic Provinces' search or $57.95 + hst = $65.48

|
Incorporation of a co-operative requires articles of incorporation
and by-laws:
- signed by at least 3 people or 2 associations (called subscribers)
- indicating that the co-operative will function as a for-profit
or nonprofit business
- indicating that members join by purchasing a share or paying
a membership fee
Information on how co-ops operate, and free assistance in preparing
the necessary documents are available from the Co-operatives Branch.
