Introduction

This Municipal Services website feature updates the information on Urban Development in Rural Areas posted in 1998. It is made up of the four sections described below. All material is accessible from the provincial map page



  1. Explanation


    • definition of "urban development"
    • definition of "rural areas"
    • where to find UDIRA
    • types of settlement pattern


  2. Time Series


    • animations show expansion of settlement pattern by decade of lot creation
    • all lots are 2 hectares or under in area
    • time series animations are provided for five central counties and for Industrial Cape Breton


  3. Settlement Pattern


    • classification of UDIRA by one of three types of layout of lots and streets or roads
    • presented as an animation
    • provided for 9 areas plus those with with a time series animation


  4. PDF Reports


    • 23 reports
    • main topics: population, dwellings, development
    • presents Census data and counts of property parcels displayed on maps
