About Municipal Services

The Municipal Services Division of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations maintains the legislative framework in which municipalities operate and is the liaison for Nova Scotia's municipalities and villages to engage with the Provincial Government. The Division provides advice, assistance, and program support to municipalities. We partner with municipalities and other municipal stakeholders in the development of strategies, policies, programs, initiatives, and funding opportunities.

Municipal Services' vision is healthy and vibrant communities. The Division will work toward the achievement of this vision through its mission of partnering with municipalities to create and support municipal governance structure that has the capacity and resources to provide quality services in a transparent manner. Five strategic areas will be the focus for the Division over the next three years:

  • Strengthening financial and non-financial support to municipalities

  • Encouraging, building and maintaining partnerships
