Geographic Information Nova Scotia - Standards Manual

    Nova Scotia's
    Geographic Information
    Standards

Preface

The "Geographic Information Nova Scotia - Standards Manual" is an ever growing, ever changing document. If applied, throughout the geomatics community, the contents of this manual will help further the development of the Provincial Land Information Management System. Over time the manual will contain background information and standards related to Spatial Referencing Systems, Data Schema and Dictionaries, Data Quality and Accuracy, Terminology, Feature Definition and Coding, data Linkages, Cartography, Database Directory and Catalogue (metadata), Data Interchange, and Security.

Who is the intended audience of this manual? The standards in this manual are primarily directed at agencies involved in corporate land-related information development, i.e. corporate data is any data which is or could be used by more than one group or agency. Therefore any person or agency involved in corporate land-related information in the Province of Nova Scotia should take some time to become familiar with the content of this manual.

Standards development through consensus building is of paramount importance if the needs of the information consumers are to be met in a vibrant geomatics community. If you or your organization have not had an opportunity to provide input into this process, the members of the Nova Scotia Committee on Standards for Geographic Information invite you to review the material contained within and encourage you and/or your organization to provide feedback on its content, intent, direction, etc.

If you would like additional information regarding future standards activities or simply would like more details regarding the standards development process, please contact:
