The Province of Nova Scotia maintains a photographic film archive at the
Nova Scotia Geomatics Centre. This archive includes over 600,000 recent
and historical vertical aerial photographs.
The provincial mapping program uses aerial photography at 1:10,000 scale
(colour) for forest mapping inventory and at 1:35,000 or 1:40,000 (black
and white) to update the 1:10,000 Nova Scotia Topographic Database mapping,
both scales cover the entire province.
By photographing each county approximately every 10 years, an enormous
historical record has been assembled. The photographic film archive also
includes custom photography flown for other provincial departments for
specific mapping projects, at various scales using colour, black &
white, or infrared film.
