4. Where is information available?
Provincial geographic information is available at the Halifax Land Registration Office/Map Library Services. Regional geographic information is available at the Regional Land Registration Offices/Map Library Services.
5. What is the year, scale, size, altitude and area covered
of an aerial photograph?
Year: Varies by County (1-2 counties are photographed each year)
Scale: 1:10 000
Size: 9" x 9"
Altitude: 5000 feet
Area Covered: 2.2 square kilometers
6. What historical aerial photographs are available?
Aerial photographs dating back to the 1960's are available at Halifax Map Library Services. 7. What is the scale, contour interval and year of compilation
for Provincial base maps?
Resource base mapping is available at 1:10,000 scale in both orthophoto and line mapping series. The contour interval for the 1:10000 resource series is 5 metres. 1:10,000 orthophoto maps were compiled from 1974 and 1980 photography. (depending on the area of the Province) 1:10,000 line mapping is being compiled from 1987-91 photography with full provincial coverage due for completion in December 1997. Larger scale base mapping is available for more populated areas at scales of 1:1000, 1:1200, 1:2000 and 1:2400. contour interval and compilation dates vary.

All counties have completed property mapping.
9. Where do I access property mapping?
Through any of our
Map Library Services
or Land Registration Offices and through Property Online.
10. How up to date is property mapping?
Property mapping is maintained on a daily basis. Currency will vary from
county to county. Consult a Regional Map Library Services office.
11. How accurate are the parcel boundaries on a property
map?
Property mapping will have varying degrees of accuracy depending on the
quality of information available to map parcels of land. In general, the
property map is intended to be a graphical representation of property
boundaries which approximates the size, configuration and location of
properties. It is not a survey and is not intended to be used for legal
descriptions or to calculate exact dimensions or area.
12. Is base mapping and property mapping available in
digital format?
Yes, access to digital mapping is available through a digital Geographic
Data Use License. Contact Map Library Services
for information.
