Vital Statistics
The Vital Statistics Division of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations is responsible for registration of vital events of birth, death, marriage, stillbirth and domestic partnership which occur in the province of Nova Scotia.
Vital Statistics Moving Locations
On Monday, June 4th, Vital Statistics will be open at its new location at 300 Horseshoe Lake Drive in Bayers Lake Business Park in Halifax, co-located with the Halifax Access Centre.
On Friday, June 1st, the Vital Statistics office at 1690 Hollis Street in Halifax will be closed. If you are requesting a birth, marriage or death certificate visit us online at www.accessns.ca/vitalstats
Birth Certificate

Death Certificate
A death certificate is the official record of a registered death in Nova Scotia.
Marriage Licence
A Marriage Licence must be purchased before two people can marry in Nova Scotia.
Marriage Certificate
A marriage certificate is the official record indicating two people have been married.
Domestic Partnership
Two persons who are living in a conjugal relationship may make the declaration of a Domestic Partnership.
Changing Your Name
You can apply to change your own name, spouse's name or, make an application to change your child's name.
Genealogy
Birth, marriage and death records are held by Vital Statistics and by Nova Scotia Archives and Records Management.
