Description of Employer's Business:

It produces logs for sale to the sawmill industry and chips for consumption at the mill

Description
Financial Support - As a representative of Northern Pulp Nova Scotia I will have discussions with politicians of all parties, government ministers and employees of provincial departments such as Economic Development pertaining to actual or proposed government programs and special initiatives that could involve Provincial loans or loan guarantees to our business. Environmental Compliance - The air and water emissions from our plant and certain aspects of our forestry operations are subject to provincial permits and periodic inspections. Some of the aspects of the permits are open to negotiation and there are certain obligations the business has to present future programs and in general keep the province informed of plans that may impact the environment. In addition the Province occasionally seeks industry input on impending regulation etc. Forestry Initiatives - Northern Pulp Nova Scotia conducts forestry operations on over a million acres of land in Nova Scotia. A portion of that is under a lease arrangement with the crown. Discussions are ongoing relative to harvesting and silviculture programs on crown lands as well as there are certain obligations to communicate plans and programs generally. The Province also seeks industry input on the impact of impending actions and regulations ranging from road closures to pest management etc. There may also be discussions on special coordinated projects such as land exchanges and potential purchases to meet objectives for habitat protection and other purposes.   View
