The Nova Scotia Department of Seniors is pleased to introduce a new province-wide resource:
On June 15, 2007 the Nova Scotia Department of Seniors launched its new senior abuse awareness campaign. The campaign aims to give a face to senior abuse, to bring it out in the open, to expose this often hidden injustice. By putting a face on the issue, it is no longer anonymous. We are looking the person in the eye and coming face to face with it.
First, we see the physical characteristics of the person, and only when we really get close to them do we really come to know their lived experience, who they really are. Once we get to know the person by getting to know more about them, we cannot ignore their situation.
Seniors deserve respect from all of society. The key message of the senior abuse awareness campaign is RESPECT.
The goal of the senior abuse awareness campaign is to create awareness, to reiterate the need for us to RESPECT seniors in our province and to trigger an emotional reaction that will lead us to action.
