Barbara Coneen, Bedford, Community Service
Barbara Coneen of Bedford has been the driving force behind a very long list of community service projects in and around Bedford and Sackville for about 40 years. Her list of accomplishments and ongoing charitable works spans an awe-inspiring range of tasks, talents, and hobbies and interests.
Barb’s community service efforts have spanned a wide array of tasks, from Board Member and President to Cook and Door to Door Canvasser. She has been a driving force behind dinners and banquets too numerous to list . . . behind weekly luncheons, day and overnight trips, canvassing campaigns, coordination of events large and small, and a dizzying array of fundraisers. She coordinates large numbers of volunteers, drives seniors to events and appointments, counts money, bakes, pours tea, and holds special fund-raisers for individuals and organizations too numerous to count.
Barb’s works have supported a wide array of interests, from bowling, lawn bowling, ringette, cribbage, veterans, parents of multiple births, knitting and quilting for Veterans and charitable fundraisers, food drives, diabetes, cancer, and heart and lung health. Amazingly, she has worked the weekly Lions Bingo for over 35 years.
Her efforts have benefitted an equally wide variety of organizations: The Sackville Seniors Advisory Council, the “Classy Ladies” Red Hat Society, Bedford Lionettes, Bedford United Church, Parents of Multiple Birth Association, Bedford Leisure Club, Bedford Craft Group, Ronald MacDonald House, and Cobequid Multi-Purpose Centre, Bedford Crib Club, Beacon House, Royal Canadian Legion - Sackville Seniors, Heather lanes Youth Bowling, Superbowl Lanes, Special Olympics, and Bedford Ringettes all know Barb’s work in their community.
As diverse and impressive as they are, these lists of activities and areas of interest do have one common tie: Barbara Coneen has devoted thousands of hours of her own time and talents in service to her community. In doing so, she has touched the lives of countless people in her community. People of all ages, whether they are athletic or physically challenged, healthy and ill: Barb’s efforts have demonstrated to each of them an exceptional commitment to Community Service.
Congratulations, Barb. We are wholeheartedly delighted to mark your achievements with this Remarkable Senior Award.
