The Department of Seniors' Intergenerational Awards program was designed to recognize and promote intergenerational work that enriches many communities across Nova Scotia. When we foster interaction and bonding between people of different generations, we give them opportunities to see beyond generational stereotypes. We foster and sustain a culture of caring. We give a wider array of community members the benefits of learning from one other's experiences and perceptions, and open doors for all.
In supporting these awards, the Department of Seniors is also striving to increase awareness of the value of intergenerational relationships. By learning from the innovative and inspirational work of others, people of all ages can more easily gather the support they need to develop and expand intergenerational programming.
Finally, promoting the Intergenerational Awards and recognizing great intergenerational work broaden public understanding of the emerging challenges and opportunities ssociated with Nova Scotia's aging population.
The Awards Program recognizes outstanding seniors, youth and volunteer groups dedicated to community service through activities that inspire interaction between younger and older generations.
