The Department of Seniors coordinates the various programs and services for seniors in Nova Scotia. This work is done in cooperation with the many other provincial departments and agencies that plan and deliver programs and services for seniors.

Programs for Seniors (PDF) is a comprehensive information directory published each year by the Department of Seniors to give Nova Scotia’s seniors quick and easy access to the many programs and services for seniors in our province.
Programs for Seniors also serves as an essential information source for those who work with seniors, many of whom work in partnership with the Department to ensure listings in the directory are accurate and up-to-date.

- Toll-Free Information Line - Department of Seniors offers a province-wide toll-free
information line:
1-800-670-0065 or 424-0065 (Halifax/Dartmouth). The phone line allows seniors, as well as concerned family members and friends to call for help in accessing information dealing with government services and programs. - Information Resource Centre supports the Department by making informationabout seniors and seniors' issues available to Department staff and committee members, seniors groups, other government departments, business and education communities, and the general public. The collection consists of books, reports, magazines, videos, pamphlets, newsletters and websites on a range of topics related to aging, including active living, literacy, caregiving, health care, housing, legal issues, safety and security and many more. Material may be borrowed from the Centre by contacting the librarian in person, by phone, fax or e-mail through the Department. Hours of operation are 8:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday.
- The Fifty-Plus Expo is held annually, this year at Exhibition Park. The Expo is a successful exhibition, done in partnership with the private sector. It draws from 3,500 to 5,000 attendees with 90 exhibits, numerous seminars and entertainment. For more information, visit the Fifty-Plus Expo website http://www.50plusexpo.ns.ca/

The Seniors’ Art and Photo Gallery provides artists and photographers 50 years of age and older, a central location to display and sell their works of art. Art is displayed in various mediums including oil, watercolours, acrylic, pastels and colour and black and white photography.
The Gallery is located at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax (1800 Argyle Street) and is a great place to shop for one-of- a-kind, reasonably priced gifts. Drop by any day between 9am and 6pm. Displays change every three months. If you would like to exhibit or purchase art or photos, please contact the Department of Seniors.
