Positive Aging Fund
The fund assists nonprofit community organizations in creating projects that advance the goals and actions outlined in Nova Scotia’s Strategy for Positive Aging, with a focus on health, well-being and community participation of Nova Scotia seniors.
Who can apply?
Nonprofit community organizations that are registered as a joint-stocks entity, or are in the process of registering as a joint stocks entity within Nova Scotia.
Successful applications will receive a grant of up to $10,000, covering 100 per cent of project costs.

Positive Aging Grants Recipients - April 2008
Scots Bay Community Hall Association, Seniors Sub-Committee. Scots Bay. $9,995. Compile a resource guide for the area and establish an assistance program for seniors for chores in and around their homes.
Gardiner Mines Recreation Society, Gardiner Mines. $9,500. Seminar series (health care, home safety, etc.) and storytelling/dvd project with seniors and youth collaborating.
Sable River Community Hall. Sable River. $3,498. Series of workshops entitled STRENGTH (Seniors Respecting and Embracing New Goals for Their Health).
Gordon B. Isnor Tenants Association. Halifax. $7,708. Expansion of programming to include movie night, literacy program, outings and physical activity programs.
Grow With Art. West Hants, Kings and Annapolis Counties. $3,200. Intergenerational project with seniors teaching children about creating art.
North Highlands Community Association. Cape North. $6,000. Culture and heritage project that showcases traditional skills through the local museum.
Cape Breton Council of Senior Citizens and Pensioners. Cape Breton Regional Municipality. $3,535. Workshops for seniors on the legal implications of non-profit organizations and volunteering.
Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia. $9,996. Develop and distribute materials regarding seniors’ legal issues related to pensions and other financial matters.
West Hants African Seniors Group. Windsor, West Hants. $4,500. Intergenerational projects including a community picnic, historical site registration and Christmas dinner theatre focused on cultural and heritage learning.
Mahone Bay Centre Society. Mahone Bay and area. $10,000. Various projects (arts/crafts, oral history/storytelling and recording). Time banking volunteerism project development.
United Communities Fire Hall Association. Broad Cove, Cherry Hill, Voglers Cove and area. $10,000. Equipment and supplies for programming and outings, including a skill sharing project.
Oxford Pioneer Heritage Club, Oxford, Cumberland County. $9,953. Equipment for club for programming.
Rosedale New Horizon Seniors Club. Bridgewater and area. $6,175. Bus trip to wool mill in PEI.
Beaver Bank Kinsac Seniors Association. Beaver Bank and area. $9,335. Various projects including a seniors registry and an intergenerational gardening project.
Society for Healthy Communities - Creating Healthy Environments. Sunrise Manor, Halifax. $10,000. Intergenerational garden and other activities to encourage resident participation.
Community Inc. Kings County and East Annapolis County. $9,026. Inclusive transportation summit.
River John and Area Recreation Association Development. River John and area. $9,500. Establish a picnic park at Cape John.
Saint Bernard Golden Age Club. St. Bernard (Clare). $5,236. Water purification system and workshops on various topics, such as legal issues and health care.
Senior Citizens Shamrock Club. Canso & Eastern Guysborough County. $2,040. Blood pressure clinics, including transportation for seniors who no longer drive.
Wedgeport Acadian Festival Association. Wedgeport, Yarmouth County. $4,100. Culture and heritage project. 400 page book for the 250th anniversary of Wedgeport.
Antigonish Guysborough Black Development Association. Guysborough. $5,000. Intergenerational crime prevention and safety project.
Ocean View Manor Society Halifax. $7,000. Safe wandering garden for residents (who have dementia).
Spencer House Seniors Centre. Halifax. $10,000. Intergenerational living and learning space.
Alzheimer Association of Nova Scotia. Province of NS. $9,980. Caregiver education series. Pilot project.
Musquodoboit Valley Family Resource Centre. Musquodoboit. $3,842. Establish a resource centre with seniors as teachers/leaders of various projects.
Forties Community Centre. Harriston, Lake Ramsay and area. $9,468. Computer training for seniors.
Eskasoni Elders Group. Eskasoni and area. $10,000. Intergenerational seniors activities including crafts, dance, friendly visitation and sharing of traditional wisdom.
IndoCanadian Senior Group of Nova Scotia. Bloomfield Centre, Halifax. $1,390. Recreational activities, to address mental, physical and emotional health.
