HR Strategy Project Information

The HR Strategy Team:

The HR Strategy Team has been created to act as a conduit to communicate both plans, activities and events involved in implementing the HR Strategy to members of the HR Community, and to give voice to the concerns and expectations of the HR Community during the implementation process.

In this role, members of the HR Strategy Team act as representatives of their HR work unit and level of work (Administrative Support to Leadership). The team also provides input and feedback regarding key components of the HR Strategy as they are developed, for example the career path model. HR Strategy Team members have a unique opportunity to advise, advocate and participate in an initiative aimed at recruiting, developing and retaining HR professionals and enhancing the HR Community across the Government of Nova Scotia.

Purpose:

The HR Strategy for the HR Community aims to address critical issues of recruitment, development and retention of qualified HR professionals in government. The HR Strategy Team is representative of the HR Community and is meant to serve as the Community’s voice in moving forward with the strategy. Input will be sought by the team and information shared with the team on a regular basis.

Membership/Selection:

The HR Strategy for the HR Community Team to include representation from across government. The team should include whenever possible all 5 levels of works and a cross representation of functional areas, e.g. compensation, diversity, training and development etc.

The names of individuals to serve on the team are to be brought forward by the Senior Management Team.

The HR Strategy Team also includes the Project Director, HR Strategy and the Advisor, HR Strategy.

Team Responsibilities:

  • Serve as advocates and spokespersons for the HR Strategy for the HR Community.

  • Attend HR Strategy meetings and provide input, advice and recommendations as needed.

  • Provide a supportive environment at these meetings for discussion of HR Strategy issues and strategic development of HR professionals in government.

  • Monitor performance in achieving the HR Strategy for the HR Community purpose, objectives and deliverables.

  • Report on progress made on the HR Strategy for the HR Community to respective HR work unit.

  • Facilitate implementation of approved HR Strategy initiatives.

  • Over time help integrate the direction of the HR Strategy for the HR Community into the HR Community culture.

Additional Responsibilities:

Team members may choose to become involved with HR Strategy project work to further contribute to the Strategy’s success and/or their professional development. Any involvement with project work would need to be discussed with the team member’s manager/supervisor. Each member’s contribution and work will be recognized through the performance management process as agreed upon by the Senior Management Team.

Procedures:

Meetings will be called by the Project Director, HR Strategy and will be scheduled every 3-4 weeks. Appointments will be sent for a six-month period. The agendas will be developed in consultation with the Executive HR Forum and the HR Strategy Team. The Project Director, HR Strategy will chair HR Strategy Team meetings. In the event that the Project Director, HR Strategy is unavailable to serve in the chair role, the Advisor, HR Strategy will take on this role.

Reporting:

The Project Director, HR Strategy to report to the Executive HR Forum on behalf of the HR Strategy Team. Each HR Strategy Team member is required to provide regular status update to their respective HR CSU or PSC team.

Duration:

The HR Strategy Team will meet over a 12-month period until November 30, 2007.

Support:

The Project Director, HR Strategy and Advisor, HR Strategy to provide staff support to the HR Strategy Team.

Other Resources:

Technical experts will be consulted and involved as needed throughout the life of the HR Strategy for the HR Community initiative. There is no set budget for the HR Strategy Team, however, HR Strategy funding will be used when needed for meeting expenses and related activities.
