Premier's Speeches

Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport
Passenger Observation Flight Deck, Enfield
Friday 9 February 2007

Thank Minister MacKay...
Lieutenant Governor, Her Honour Mayann Francis...

Prime Minister Harper, welcome and let me say how proud Nova Scotians are to have you here, especially for the recognition you have bestowed on a great leader and a great Nova Scotian.

Let me also welcome Mrs. Stanfield, and members of the Stanfield family.

Nova Scotia has changed so much since Robert L. Stanfield became our province's leader 51 years ago. Nova Scotia has progressed, thanks to his vision and work starting us toward becoming a stronger, self-reliant people and place.

Look at this airport. Consider its growth, the connections and its business success. This is emblematic of our province, in general, just as Robert L. Stanfield would have forecast.

While decades have passed and times have changed, something has remained constant: I'm referring to the Stanfield name and what it represents – values such as hard work, smart thinking, and civic responsibility.

The Stanfield family has a long history of this. It was in Robert L. Stanfield, it was in Frank Stanfield, and it continues today among Mrs. Stanfield, her family and the extended Stanfield clan. I hope the naming of Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport fills you with pride, as it does all of us.

Thank You.
