The Mayflower

The Mayflower

  • The delicate pink mayflower was declared the provincial flower in 1901.
  • It blooms in early spring.
  • The mayflower has been celebrated in songs and poetry, and has been featured on stamps and coins of the province.
  • Nova Scotians proudly display mayflowers on lapels and banners, and at least two newspapers were named for the flower.
  • The scientific name of the mayflower is the Trailing Arbutus (Epigaea repens).
