The Nova Scotia Tartan
- The Nova Scotia tartan
was the first provincial tartan in Canada.
- Tartan reflects the
important contribution of the Scots to the founding of Nova Scotia.
- The very name Nova
Scotia is Latin for New Scotland.
- The tartan was originally
designed in 1953 for the agricultural exhibition in Truro. It was
officially adopted by the province in 1955.
- The blue and white
in the tartan stand for the sea, the greens represent the forests,
red is for the royal lion on the Shield of Arms, and gold for the
province's historic Royal Charter.
