Problem Gambling

Health Care Professional

It’s time to talk about it

Creating an atmosphere where a patient is open to talk can be difficult. There are often feelings of guilt and shame attached to problem gambling.

You can help dispel these feelings by making assurances that you do not judge them. Let them know that there is the possibility to overcome this problem and that they are not alone.

We encourage you to suggest to your patients to call the Problem Gambling Help Line.

Assure them that they don’t have to give their name. You should also tell them that staff at the Help Line are trained in the area of problem gambling counseling and know about the services available throughout Nova Scotia.

If they rather talk to someone face to face, give them the contact information for their local Addiction Services office.

Everyone just wants to help.

It would be great if you could make that first call together.
