We understand that you are not a health care professional or a counselor. However, you can help your client in important ways.
As you provide your client with financial help and advice, you can do them a great service by encouraging them to explore the impact of their gambling on their financial picture.
Resolving the financial situation and not the gambling behavior will place your client at risk for increased debt over the long term.
We suggest that you can help by assisting your client make an appointment at your local Addiction Services office.
If they don't want to meet some one in person, encourage them to call the Problem Gambling Help Line. Staff are professionals trained in problem gambling counseling. Remind them that they can call without giving their name and that no one is there to judge them, just to help them.
Family members need support as well. Encourage them to contact Addiction Services or the Problem Gambling Help Line. There is also valuable information on this website, feel free to pass along the url.
