What We Do
Vision
Nova Scotia acknowledges, values and invests in Gaelic, a customary language and culture that contributes to the diversity, vibrancy and continued growth and development of the province.
Mandate
- Determine steps to develop a Gaelic language and culture strategy for government and a plan for its implementation in conjunction with key stakeholders
- Determine steps to develop a language renewal plan for Nova Scotia
- Provide advice and support to departments, agencies and Crown corporations so they will develop policies, programs and services that reflect the needs of Gaelic communities in Nova Scotia
- Support Gaelic Awareness Month and other special projects that communicate the significance, relevance and value of Nova Scotia’s Gaelic language and culture
- Liaise with stakeholder groups, i.e., provincial government departments, Federal Government, School Boards, community and other potential partners
- Develop and manage co-operative agreements and programs with other jurisdictions, such as the Memorandum of Understanding between the Province of Nova Scotia and the Highland Council of Scotland
- Perform any other related duties as directed by the Minister of Gaelic Affairs
