Youth Conservation Corps

Regular Summer Program

Purpose

The Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps (NSYCC), a program of Nova Scotia Environment, was established in 1989. The NSYCC's mandate is to provide Nova Scotian youth age 17-30 with training and employment opportunities in the environmental field, while providing services to communities in Nova Scotia for the enhancement of the local environment. The NSYCC provides Nova Scotian youth with environmental work experience, an enhanced appreciation of the environment and their community, and develops skills for life-long learning (including team-building and leadership skills, increased knowledge for future employment and/or education ventures, and the ability to give back to their community and their environment).

This program is a partnership between the NSYCC, Nova Scotia communities, and youth.

Past Projects

What Participants Say

"Who knew that muddy faces, bug-bitten arms, and wet underwear all summer long could be such a blast? Our time so far on the Ellenvale Run Restoration Project has been an awesome learning experience. From literature and hands-on training, we learned all about fish habitat sustainability, stream structure and various restoration techniques. We have spent much of our time in the Ellenvale Run knee-deep, soaking wet, and loving it. We haven’t seen any live fish yet, but we bet that once we finish, the Ellenvale Run will be the party stream of the fish world!
