Design and Selection by Qualified Persons

In many areas of Nova Scotia, wastewater from a home or business is treated and disposed of by means of an on-site sewage disposal system. Qualified Persons can select and/or design on-site sewage disposal systems, depending on their level of qualification. Selection of an on-site sewage disposal system is made from the On-site Sewage Disposal System Technical Guidelines issued by Nova Scotia Environment and Labour. An approval from the Nova Scotia Environment and Labour must be obtained prior to the installation of an on-site sewage disposal system.

Qualified Persons Level I can both select and design on-site sewage disposal systems. Qualified Persons Level I carry identification as Professional Engineers registered to practice in Nova Scotia. They have valid liability insurance and have been trained and certified at DalTech on behalf of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia.
