Nova Scotia’s Electronic Waste Regulations
Nova Scotia is proud to be the first province in Atlantic Canada to develop and implement regulations to effectively deal with electronic waste.

Electronic Product Stewardship Regulations (PDF: 47k) come into effect on February 1, 2008 for the first phase of products and February 1, 2009 for the second phase.
Products to be collected during Phase one:
- laptop /desktop computers and peripherals
- printers
- monitors
- televisions
Products to be collected during Phase two:
- computer scanners
- telephones
- fax machines
- cell phones and other wireless devices
- audio and video playback and recording systems. e.g. vcr's, dvd players, etc.
The goal of the regulations is to divert electronic products from landfills through the creation of a province-wide collection and recycling system for electronic waste. The regulations include a disposal ban on electronic waste.
Industry, through Atlantic Canada Electronics Stewardship (ACES) is responsible for the development and implementation of the program. The program is administered by RRFB Nova Scotia. For further information, please visit www.acestewardship.ca
It is estimated that more than 4500 tonnes of electronic product waste is generated in Nova Scotia annually. The program will keep much of this waste out of landfill, recycling it into new products.
