Craig Morrison addressing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Youth Forum.Early January 2007, ETI Manager Craig Morrison was invited by the Government of Brunei and the Canadian High Commission in Brunei to speak at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Youth Forum. Craig made several speeches to youth, government and private sector participants on environmental sustainability and stewardship in Nova Scotia.

Craig also took the opportunity to meet with local private sector companies to determine opportunities for Nova Scotia companies in the Brunei environment sector.

Environment 2007 Conference - United Arab Emirates

Opportunities for Nova Scotia in Environment Sector of UAE

Imad Arafat, Ryan Kuffner (Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada), Kim MacNeil (NSEL), Sultan Al Jaber (MASDAR), Thomas Rankin (NSEL) and Peter Nicholson (DOE) at Environment 2007 Conference in Abu Dhabi.Nova Scotia has been busily building its ties to the United Arab Emirates. Situated on the Arabian Gulf, the UAE has become a pre-eminent energy, financial and tourism hub for the region.

Demand for greater protection of the environment has been driven by the country's massive infrastructure growth and burgeoning tourism sector. The Environment 2007 Conference, held in Abu Dhabi, attracted delegates from around the globe.

Initial research and meetings indicate a significant demand for quality, innovative environmental services and technologies. Canadian firms are welcome and are in demand for their expertise.

Environmental Liaison Office in Trinidad & Tobago

Nova Scotia Seeks to Build Upon Success

View of Port of SpainNSEL, in partnership with the Department of Energy, the Office of Economic Development, and Nova Scotia Business Inc., has opened an Environmental Liaison Office in Trinidad & Tobago. Craig Morrison will be working closely with government organizations in Trinidad & Tobago, including the Ministry of Public Utilities and the Environment and the Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL), to advance environmental projects in that country.

This project follows on a series of successful business development initiatives undertaken by Nova Scotia. In particular, NSEL's mission to the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) Conference in October resulted in nearly $500 000 in expected revenues.

The objectives of the Liaison Office are to:

Partnering for Success in IFI-Funded Project

Hugh Wilkinson to Conduct Workshop

NSEL, in partnership with NSBI and Edunova, will sponsor a half-day interactive workshop on how to build strategic partnerships when pursuing project funded by the International Financial Institution (IFI).

The primary objective of the seminar will be to provide participants with increased knowledge of the IFI market and strategies for partnering on both an international and local level.

The environment sector workshop will take place on Wednesday, March 14, between 9 A.M. and 12 P.M.. The seminar will be delivered by International Development Specialist, Hugh Wilkinson.

Americana Environmental Trade Show and Conference

March 20 - 22, Montreal

The 2007 Americana International Environmental Technology Trade Show and Conference is around the corner. This year's theme is Environment Fuelling the Economic Engine.

As part of the Team Atlantic Environment (TAE) initiative, NSEL is partnering with New Brunswick Business on a trade show booth. Firms are welcome to place their brochures in the booth and, or use the booth space as a venue to meet with potential partners and clients.
