From soaring headlands to forested canyons, secluded beaches, and pristine highland barrens, Polletts Cove-Aspy Fault Wilderness Area protects a spectacular mix of highland and coastal features at the northern tip of Cape Breton Island, adjacent to Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
Ancient faults, cirques, and canyons, combine with the effects of sea and wind to create a unique habitat with coastal mountain barrens, outstanding wetlands and forested old-growth deciduous slopes.
This wild area is home to one of the province's largest concentrations of moose, and is popular among hunters during the annual provincial moose hunt. With a long history of use by local communities, the wilderness area provides excellent opportunities for remote and challenging wilderness travel.
The department is currently working with a local group of interested citizens to form a Community Stewardship Committee to assist in the future management and monitoring of this special area.
