Middle River-Framboise Wilderness Area
5640 hectares; Landscape representation - Mira River Drumlin Plain
Located a short drive from Cape Breton's population centre in Sydney, the Middle-River Framboise Wilderness Area provides a relatively large refuge for a complex of well-defined drumlin landforms, and imperfectly to poorly-drained intervening areas. Wetlands, streams and lakes combine with mixed forests on the rounded drumlin hills to provide outstanding representation of the Mira River Drumlin Plain landscape.
Some of the forest exceeds 200 years of age.
Although the area is largely inaccessible, it is mostly surrounded by active, roaded, forestry lands. Several of the larger lakes are used by anglers.
