1,750 hectares; Landscape representation - Cape Breton Boreal plateau

Jim Campbells Barren is a large natural area of undisturbed land embedded within a landscape fragmented by a network of roads, silviculture operations, and dam flowages. The wilderness area protects an outstanding mosaic of boreal wetlands (bogs & fens), barrens, and old coniferous forests.
The area is home to a high concentration of rare and unique elements, including rare plants, old balsam fir forests and forested wetlands. The area also overlaps three critical watershed divides, including that of the Margaree River, playing a significant role in watershed protection and maintenance.
