Porcupine Brook Nature Reserve protects an outstanding remnant tract of old-growth eastern hemlock forest, and several stands of mature forests containing white pine, black and red spruce, and yellow birch. The best old-growth straddles the nature reserve boundary at the northern end of the nature reserve. The site was purchased for protection from Bowater Mersey in 2007.
