Description

On June 18, 2004, Mark-Lyn Construction Limited submitted an Environmental Assessment Registration Document for a proposed Soil / Peat and Aggregate Operation.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to extend soil / peat and aggregate resources from properties East of the South Bishop Board in Coldbrook for the manufacture of top-soil products for use in gardening and landscaping. The project is scheduled to start July 2004.

In April of 2005, Nova Scotia Environment and Labour contracted a consultant to conduct a hydrological study (PDF: 1.5mb) at the Baltzers Bog site. The study is available for public review and will be considered by the Minister when making a future decision on the project.

Minister's Decision

On July 13, 2004, the Minister of Environment and Labour released a decision (PDF: 328k) concerning this review.

The Minister has determined that the registration information is insufficient to make a decision on the project, and additional information is required in accordance with Section 13(1)a of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.

Opportunities for Public Input

Public comments regarding this project were accepted from June 18, 2004 to July 13, 2004. Comments submitted on Registration Document are available at the Environment and Labour Library.
