Description

On August 10, 2002, MacLeod Resources Ltd. registered an Environmental Assessment for the proposed development and operation of the Kennedys Big Brook Red Marble Mine, in River Denys, Inverness County. The company is proposing to cut and extract marble, and then process the marble on site. The Minister of Environment and Labour is required to make a decision on the environmental acceptability of the proposal no later than September 3, 2002.

Minister's Decision

On September 3, 2002, the Minister of Environment and Labour released a decision (PDF: 16k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13 (1)(b) of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.

The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions (PDF: 14k). The proponent is required to obtain all other necessary approvals, permits or authorizations before commencing work on the undertaking.
