On October 25, 2004, John Ross and Sons Limited submitted an Environmental Assessment Registration Document for their battery storage facility located at 171 Chain Lake Drive, Halifax.
As a depot for storage of lead acid batteries, John Ross and Sons Limited requires a warehouse facility to store scrap used batteries prior to off-site disposal at an authorized recycling facility outside of Nova Scotia.
Minister's Decision
On November 18, 2004, the Minister of Environment and Labour released a decision (PDF: 330k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.
The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions (PDF: 39k). The proponent is required to obtain all other necessary approvals, permits or authorizations before commencing work on the undertaking.
