Driven by scientific and technical evidence, the Science division provides subject matter expertise, advice and program management support. It is also responsible for developing training programs for field staff. The Science division works with staff across all regions and divisions to develop policy and regulatory management tools that ensure intended environmental outcomes are met.
The division:
- monitors ambient air resources and develops air quality management plans
- deliveries programs for pollution prevention
- provides information on pests and use of pesticides
- provides resources on handling and storage of petroleum, and other hazardous substances
- coordinates a contaminated sites program
- protects our natural heritage
- assists management of drinking water, groundwater, surface water and wastewater resources
- enables and oversees solid waste resource management strategies and programs
