Solidification/Stabilization 1 day Science Forum Sponsored by NS Environment and Labour, (NSEL)

Nova Scotia Environment and Labour is pleased to host its fifth science forum upcoming in August 2007. This forum is sponsored by the Comptetiveness and Compliance Divsision of NSEL and builds on the recent solidification/stabilization (S/S) workshop held at Cape Breton University in the fall of 2006. S/S technology has been chosen to remediate the Sydney Tar ponds site in Sydney, Nova Scotia

The forum is intended to provide an opportunity to exchange knowledge with stakeholders and interested members of the public to build capacity and awareness of S/S treatment technology and management issues. The forum will provide an opportunity to learn more about the science behind S/S and learn from experts that have carried out S/S projects throughout the world.

A collaboration of national and international experts will present the science and application of the technology within a wide range of applications, including mineral wastes and brownfields.

Speakers will include experts from the USEPA( Edward Bates), the United Kingdom Environment Agency( Dr. Brian Bone), the UK Centre for Land Reclamation at the University of Greenwich (Dr. Colin Hills), the University of New Hampshire ( Dr. Kevin Gardner) and professional contractors and consultants specializing in S/S technology from Canada and abroad.
