The AQHI is a national program. Health Canada and Environment Canada work with provincial governments and organizations across the country to make it widely available. Nova Scotia hosted a pilot program in 2006 in Halifax and Sydney. Based on that success, Nova Scotia Environment is implementing the index provincially with the support of Health Canada, Environment Canada, and many others.
