Archival Description

Nova Scotia Information Service fonds

1945-1990

25,006 photographs and other material

Until 1972, Nova Scotia government information services were delivered by a variety of successive departments. Legislation in 1972 established the Nova Scotia Communications and Information Centre. In 1981 the centre became a division of the Department of Government Services. In November 1987, Nova Scotia Information Service again became a separate agency, with a mandate to facilitate the flow of communication between government and the public and to promote Nova Scotia nationally and internationally. In 1992, Nova Scotia Information Service became a division of the Department of Supply and Services.

Fonds consists of photographs and film productions created by the Nova Scotia Information Service. Photographs consist of black-and-white negatives from publicity and promotional events depicting Nova Scotia landscapes, communities, government activities, people, industries, and events. Film productions include promotional and documentary productions relating to many aspects of life in the province as well as original footage of various special events. Original master soundtracks available for some productions.
