The Parish of St Jean-Baptiste at Port Royal (Annapolis Royal) was established around 1613 and lasted until the Dérangement of 1755. — Formerly among the records of the Provincial Secretary, the register was presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia to the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Halifax in December 1855. Sometime after the establishment of the Diocese of Yarmouth in 1953 the register was transferred from the Archives of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese to the Bishop of Yarmouth. — Item is the official register of births, marriages and burials of the Roman Catholic parish of Annapolis Royal. Includes baptisms of First Nations people.
Formal title continues: dans la nouvelle ecosse ou Acadie a commencer du milieu du mois Avril mil sept cent ving et sept. — Includes at beginning letter of transmittal, 15 December 1855, from Lewis Morris Wilkins (provincial secretary) to the Reverend Michael Hannan (archdiocesan priest). — Some paper conservation done on first leaf. — Written in French. — Original held by Chancery Office, Diocese of Yarmouth (Yarmouth NS). — Microfilm copy available at NSARM. — Previous register, 1702-1728, is in the Commissioner of Public Records collection at NSARM.
