accessible event for everyone. The boardwalk and the spectacular views are open and free to everyone. Tickets give visitors the opportunity to experience these majestic ships first-hand.
” Colin MacLean, president and CEO, Waterfront Development Corporation Ltd.
“The cultural exchange between the crew and the community at large is a tremendous feature of the Tall Ships gatherings. More than 2,000 international crew are expected to sail into Halifax this July and a crew cultural program has been developed. Being on the Halifax waterfront is a great way for people to welcome them.
” Leanne Strathdee, event director, Tall Ships Nova Scotia 2009
“The tie in with the Tall Ships is that 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the naval dockyard here in Halifax and, to mark that occasion, we are doing a re-enactment of the founding during the Tall Ships event
” Cpt. (N) Craig Walkington, Marine Forces Atlantic Canada, Naval Centennial Co-ordinator.
“We have pictures of Pugwash in its early days when the harbour was full of sail boats, because Pugwash harbour has been a mainstay of the community for a long time, and having Tall Ships back in the habour is going to bring back a lot of memories for a lot of people.
” Denis Brown, Chairman of Pugwash HarbourFest ‘09
