Amendments to Fisheries and Coastal Resources Act

Fisheries and Aquaculture

Nova Scotia's lakes and rivers will be better protected through amendments to legislation introduced today, Nov. 4, by Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau.

Proposed changes to the Fisheries and Coastal Resources Act are designed to clarify and simplify the act. The amendments will also protect against the non-authorized introduction of fish into provincial waters.

"We know that Nova Scotians expect our marine and freshwater resources to be well-managed," said Mr. Belliveau. "This legislation helps us to do exactly that for present and future generations."

The Fisheries and Coastal Resources Act outlines a structure for sustainable development of Nova Scotia's coastal resources. It has been in effect since 1997.
