Crosswalk Safety Campaign Reminds Motorists, Pedestrians to Share Road

Nova Scotia roads will busy over the next few month with students enjoying their summer vacation and more tourists visiting the province.

"We are urging all road users to look out for one another," said Bill Estabrooks, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "It's crucial that both motorists and pedestrians share the responsibility to keep our crosswalk and intersections safe."

Starting this month, radio, transit and online ads will remind pedestrians and motorists to use caution and pay attention at intersections and crosswalks. The province and Halifax Regional Municipality have partnered on the campaign.

"HRM recognizes the importance of crosswalk safety and strives to promote this as much as possible," said Roddy MacIntyre, transportation engineer with Halifax Regional Municipality. "Every road user -- pedestrian and driver alike -- has a responsibility to act safely and look out for each other to keep our crosswalks safe."
