Premier Congratulates Nova Scotia Senate Appointees

Premier's Office

Premier Rodney MacDonald offered his congratulations to the three Nova Scotians appointed today, Dec. 22, to the Canadian Senate.

Stephen Greene, Fred Dickson and Michael MacDonald were among 18 senators named by the Prime Minister.

"Each of these individuals has always been a proud supporter of Nova Scotia," said Premier MacDonald. "I am sure they will continue to be as they take up their new duties in the senate."

Mr. Greene is particularly well known to the premier, serving as his deputy chief of staff. The premier said Mr. Greene was a crucial part in the settlement of the crown share agreement reached over the summer with the federal government.

"I have spoken to Stephen and expressed my congratulations," said the premier. "His role in settling the crown share can not be overlooked. He has made a major contribution to our province and I know that he will continue to do this in Ottawa."

The premier said he is still in favour of senate reform, including fixed terms, and he hopes the new members of the senate will continue to work towards that goal.
