Construction Information to Benefit Industry and Nova Scotians

Labour and Workforce Development (April 2008 - Jan. 2011)

The construction industry now has one-stop shopping when dealing with the provincial government.

The Construction Compliance Information Portal was launched today, Oct. 23, to make it easier for businesses to access all provincial government construction requirements through one targeted website. The launch coincides with Small Business Week, which runs until Saturday, Oct. 25.

The portal includes information on all provincial regulatory and legislative requirements, licences, permits, approvals, certificates and registrations for the construction industry, organized by type of construction activity.

"Making it easier for businesses to find and navigate government requirements also makes it easier for them to meet those requirements," said Mark Parent, Minister of Labour and Workforce Development, and Minister of Environment.

"When businesses comply with government regulations they increase the safety and health of people, protect the environment, and foster economic prosperity for all Nova Scotians."

"We were pleased to partner with Labour and Workforce Development and the Department of Environment on the portal," said Carol McCulloch, president of the Construction Association of Nova Scotia.

"These departments are committed to improving regulations, and we worked with them to make sure the portal will meet the needs of our industry. Reactions to the previews have been great."

The portal will also include guides, training information, contact information, and other resources that make the requirements and legislation easier to interpret. It is part of the Better Regulation Initiative to improve both the quality of regulations and the delivery of regulatory programs.

The Construction Compliance Information Portal can be found online at www.gov.ns.ca/constructionportal/ . It is also being demonstrated at the Halifax Chamber of Commerce's Business to Business Expo, today, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the World Trade Centre, Halifax.
