Paradise Trail to Open to Motorized Vehicles

Department of Natural Resources

October 8, 2008 3:21 PM

Barriers will be removed today, Oct. 8, from an abandoned Dominion Atlantic Railway line through Paradise, Annapolis Co.

The trail was closed to motorized vehicles in January after concerns from some Paradise residents. The province announced its commitment to continue working with the community to find a long-term solution.

Natural Resources Minister David Morse said extensive community consultation played a large part in his decision to open the trail to motorized vehicles.

"We held a series of open consultations in Paradise dedicated to adjacent landowners, non-motorized trail users, motorized trail users, and other community members, to hear what they wanted for their trail," said Mr. Morse. "I thank the residents of Paradise for helping government make a decision that reflects the wishes of adjacent landowners, as well as the broader community."

The department will work with a coalition of trail groups in the area to address adjacent landowners' interests and to ensure responsible and safe use of off-highway vehicles.

The decision was supported by the ministerial advisory group on off-highway vehicles.

A report on the Paradise community consultations is available on the Department of Natural Resources website at www.gov.ns.ca/natr/ohv .
