Public Service Act Amendments to Include Department of Seniors

The province has introduced amendments to the Public Service Act, today, April 24, that will confirm by statute the establishment of the Department of Seniors.
The changes to the Public Service Act are administrative and define the role of the Minister of Seniors and the administration of the Senior Citizen's Secretariat Act.
The Department of Seniors was created in September 2007 by Order in Council. The Seniors Secretariat, established by legislation in 1989, continues, and is comprised of ministers responsible for: Seniors, Health, Community Services, Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, Education, Healthy Promotion and Protection, and Justice.
